The love of God must be shown through action. It may be easy to say, “I love you,” or “Jesus loves you,” but how will people ever experience this love if it is not accompanied by action? When disaster strikes, communities are often caught off guard and left with tremendous needs. The Church of God has a resource that enables God’s love to be shown through action when the unexpected occurs. Church of God congregations and individual donors replenish the Disaster Relief Fund and the Hunger Relief Fund to provide immediate response to tragedies, such as the earthquake that struck Haiti in January.
Hurricane Alex was the first Atlantic hurricane to reach land during the month of June since 1995. By the end of June, heavy rainfall ravaged much of northeastern Mexico. Flooding along the Rio Grande caused the evacuation of at least forty families in the city of Piedras Negras and thousands of other families in nearby cities. The Church of God community in Piedras Negras was severely affected by this catastrophe. Most of the residents and their surrounding neighbors were seriously affected by the hurricane. The worst-hit locations were situated along the river, where homes were completely destroyed. Even where homes were not destroyed, material goods—including food and other necessary supplies—were washed away.
Church of God Ministries is pleased to announce the release of $5,000 from the Hunger Relief Fund to Pastor Abner Rodriguez of the Camino de Salvación church, across the Rio Grande from Eagle Pass, Texas. Pastor Rodriguez and his father lead the church there, which includes seventeen sites spread out across the area ministering to two thousand people. Thousands more are also in need of tangible expressions of God’s love. Tim West, Church of God state administrator in Texas, insists that “the relief effort will be a great way to continue to spread the gospel to those in need and alleviate human suffering.”
The continued financial support of the Hunger Relief Fund will ensure that Church of God Ministries can respond to disasters in an expeditious manner and thereby spread the love of God into communities that so desperately need it. Would you or your congregation be willing to support this effort? You can send God’s love into the far regions of the world by donating today.
