Comment by Mary Burch Nichols on March 5, 2012 at 5:53pm This is the second week in a row we've had someone request more information about becoming a Christian. I can't wait to see what happens. We had 13 people come out for a Saturday night prayer meeting where we took out our Focus 40 commitment cards and prayed over them, and we prayed over them again at the end of our Sunday evening service yesterday. I printed 100 cards, and they're almost all filled out and in the box already.
Comment by Sam Bruce on March 5, 2012 at 5:19pm Mary, now that's what I'm talking about . . . another one of those Yay! God! Moments! Isn't it amazing to see God accomplishing what He promised to do when His people love + pray + care + share + believe? I am praying that your story will be multiplied by 25,000 in Focus 40 2012. Talk about Yay! God! Moments!
Comment by Mary Burch Nichols on March 5, 2012 at 4:28pm I am so beyond excited...we had a lady who was visiting with us for the first time yesterday as the guest of a couple in our congregation, and when I sent her my customary follow-up email, she EMAILED ME BACK. That has NEVER happened before. I am overcome with delight. God is totally up to something AWESOME. The young lady is named Sydney, and she mentioned in her reply that the message about being lost yesterday spoke exactly to her situation, and she also indicated on her connection card that she would like more information about becoming a Christian. :)
Comment by Sam Bruce on March 5, 2012 at 4:21pm OK, Mike! Now everybody in CUPS is totally convinced that I am absolutely nuts, sitting here by myself, laughing outloud! And to think, of all places -- the Focus 40 website -- I broke mynot laughing for 40 days fast! :-) I'll be preaching on this one soon.
Back to serious . . . I like your Prayer Goals and Blessing List idea. Over the years I have used a prayer list and answers sheet in my Journal. It is always exciting to be able to record the answers, especially when you are praying over an impossible-to-reach-or-change person; and God shows up by reaching and changing the one you're praying for. Some of those stories are in a couple of my devotionals in Focus 40. Those areYay! God! Moments!
Sam,
They just put their name on a brick. We have some other inserts that list church prayer goals, and encourage people to develop a Blessing List of one or two people that they are specifically praying for.
Comment by Joe Allison on March 5, 2012 at 9:28am Had dinner last night with Steve and Nancy Starks, who pastor First Church of God in South Haven, MI, and Steve shared his burden for reaching people already in the pews on Sunday morning. "So much of the time, I've prayed for people who no longer attend church," he said. "Lately, the Lord has laid on my heart people who do come to worship, but haven't really committed their lives to the Lord." As Jesus told his first disciples, "Look around you. The fields are already white unto harvest!"
Comment by Sam Bruce on March 5, 2012 at 12:43am Mike, thanks for posting the Fasting Wall Video. That's exciting. Great job! Do the volunteers just put their names on the bricks or do they add other information? I'm trying to get my facts straight! :-)
Had the privilege to see another disciple added to the Kingdom today! The First Church of God in Tallmadge, Ohio had the Journeymen Quartet in for the worship service this morning, and the Holy Spirit used them in a powerful way. Praise the Lord!
Comment by Mary Burch Nichols on March 1, 2012 at 11:39am I was having that same thought. What are we doing to get ready for 25,000 new believers? So cool when the Holy Spirit has people who are many miles apart on the same wavelength!
