Many blessings to all our brothers and sisters of Focus 40!! Here in Puerto Rico we started strong today. Our church is very excited and we even have people contacting us via our website, wanting to be a part of Focus 40 (Enfócate 40, in Spanish). We sent txt messages, emails and recorded phone calls to all registered with the Bible passage, the topic from the devotional and the prayer theme for the day. It is a wonderful feeling knowing that so many brothers and sisters are sharing with us the same spiritual experience. Keep it up!! www.midd.org/enfocate40

Hello to my Puerto Rico brothers and sisters. I am not a resident of Puerto Rico, but I am a brother in Christ. I have the privilege of serving on the Church of God Transformation Team Connect/Refresh, and I just wanted to share with you an idea I posted on another group, for your prayer and consideration. Feel free to boot me out of here if I am where I do not belong :-)

As editor and contributor of the Focus 40 Devotionals (produced by the Transformation Team Cultivate/Refresh), here is one way I hope they might be used. I have created Story Greenhouse and Sermon Greenhouse files in my computer. A greenhouse is a place where seeds are planted and cultivated in a safe, environmentally-controlled setting until they grow up large enough and strong enough to be planted outside in the proper growing season to produce fruit that will refresh their recipients. In the greenhouse, the little fragile plants are watered, nourished, and cultivated until they are ready to be transplanted to their permanent growing and fruit bearing setting. In my Story Greenhouse and Sermon Greenhouse I plant seed-ideas, titles, Scripture references, and illustrations when I do not have time to write the full devotional story or sermon. As relevant ideas come to mind, I cultivate the seedlings – sometimes pruning irrelevant or unneeded material – until they grow into full devotionals, journals, or sermons to refresh their recipients. I enjoy walking around in my Greenhouses, tending the seedlings and attending to the Master Gardener as He instructs, encourages, guides, inspires, and directs my thoughts – Cultivating them. Often I transplant Story Greenhouse seedlings into the Sermon Greenhouse. Sometimes I share them with one of my Bible study or mentoring groups, or in online courses that I teach at Mid-America Christian University to get their feedback or stimulate discussion on a particular topic. In this way, they become refreshing, nourishing fodder for my personal inner world as well as for the lives of those God brings across my path of ministry. Our hope is that the Focus 40 Devotionals will make wonderful Greenhouse Fodder for teaching and preaching that will Cultivate and Refresh our lives, relationships, and ministries during the Focus 40 Season 2011 and beyond. drsambruce@aol.com
