Outside of prayer. How does a lay person encourage a church to embrace modern ideas? Ideas such as  mission statements, strategic plans and organizational goals, thought’s please!

It's all about communication. When you live your Christian life before others, you're communicating. When the pastor preaches, he's communicating. When you're sharing the gospel with your neighbor, you're communicating. Effective communication has the greatest potential to yield unprecedented results in ministries of the Church of God. When the public knows: the public responds to the "knocking on the door of the heart," the public prays, the public gives, the public attends, the public supports, the public blesses, and the public is blessed! Amen!

Here are two great resources for the local church. The first is a complete marketing plan developed by the Methodist church -

The second is a website dedicated to church marketing/communication. Don't let the name scare you away as there is great stuff to be found.
